Best known for his role as Lucas on “Stranger Things,” Caleb McLaughlin recently opened up about his faith in God. This isn’t a newfound faith for him as he continues to go to church with his family and spend time in prayer.

“I’ve always felt a connection with God,” said McLaughlin on the “Podcrushed” podcast.

Caleb McLaughlin Finds Talking With God ‘Replenishing’

In a recent interview, Caleb McLaughlin talked about his own faith, where it began, and how it “grounds” him.

“I’ve always felt a connection with God in my spirit,” said McLaughlin. ” I can’t even remember the day it started. It’s just always been a part of me.”

McLaughlin took to acting at a young age. After “The Lion King” on Broadway, he began with “Stranger Things” at the age of 13, according to The Christian Post.

“I feel like it’s my calling,” McLaughlin said of his acting career to Essence in 2022. “Of course, there’s more I have to do to become better and I have to work at that,” he said. “God has called me to do this thing called acting and the performing arts. I never wanted to do it—it just happened. I love it more than anything now.”

“Stranger Things” has certainly created controversy, especially in the Christian community. With themes of the supernatural and apparently demonic forces, the series set in the 1980s captured the interest of Gen Xers.

“They’re giving the appearance as if this is supernatural, but they’re slowly subverting it, one by one, and explaining things away naturalistically,” said apologist Sean McDowell. “So the worldview underlying ‘Stranger Things’ is naturalism. I don’t think it’s actually supernaturalism.”

McLaughlin played Lucas, one of four friends who play Dungeons & Dragons and find themselves in their own real-life adventure. He has spoken up about how his own faith permeates his performances on and off screen.

“There’s always a different level to it,” he explained. “I feel like sometimes you live your life, and you kind of like get into the world a little bit. And, then you kind of stop praying.”

McLaughlin recognizes his faith is more than just praying right before bed. He has moments where he says, “Wait, I need to pray and talk to God. Sit down and like ground yourself.”

This past summer, McLaughlin experienced much of this “grounding.” He “went to church a lot” with his family and “deleted Instagram.”

“I just started grounding myself a little bit more and talking to God more,” he continued. “And it’s been really replenishing.”
