On Sunday, Feb. 1, contemporary Christian recording artist Brandon Lake added to his shelf of Grammys by collecting the award for Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song.
Lake won with “Hard Fought Hallelujah,” his collaboration with Jelly Roll, beating out Forrest Frank, Elevation Worship, Chris Brown, Lecrae, Killer Mike, T.I., Darrel Walls, and PJ Morton.
Lake was also nominated in the Best Contemporary Christian Music Album category for his album “King Of Hearts” and in the same category he previously won for “I Know A Name.”

“Thank you. Thank you. Thank you, Jesus,” Lake said as he accepted the award alongside the song’s writer, Benjamin William Hastings, and producer Micah Nichols. “I’m going to thank my wife who’s holding down the fort back home with all my babies. Thank you to the academy for honoring this category. Thank you, Provident, my label, Bright Group.”
Lake continued, “Thank you, Pastor Steven Furtick, Benjamin William Hastings, Chris Brown, Micah Nichols for producing this song, and all my local Charleston, South Carolina, guys who played on it.”
Brandon Lake Thanks Jelly Roll for ‘Taking a Chance’ on Him
The “Gratitude” singer then thanked Jelly Roll for collaborating with him on the song and helping it reach audiences he could not have reached alone.
“I want to say, obviously, a huge thank you to Jelly for taking a chance on this song, taking a chance on me,” Lake said. “He just took me everywhere he was performing and said, ‘Let’s do this song together.’ He took this song places that I couldn’t have by myself.”
Lake shared that, because of Jelly Roll’s commitment to “Hard Fought Hallelujah,” Jesus used the song to save “countless” people.
“I’ve gotten countless messages of how this song has literally saved people’s lives and pointed them to Jesus,” Lake said. “If it wasn’t for Jesus, I don’t know where I would be.”
