Forrest Frank and Noah Hayden are offering $10,000 to the fan who comes up with a new name for their band. The contest comes after the duo encountered copyright issues with the name they previously selected.

Frank has dominated Christian music charts for the past couple of years with hits like “GOOD DAY,” “YOUR WAY’S BETTER” and “LEMONADE.” His most recent project grew out of early morning surf sessions with friend and fellow musician Hayden.

“For the last like six months, me and my friend Noah have been—well since before that—we were surfing a bunch,” Frank shared earlier this week. “And because both of us have kids, the time that we figured out that we could surf was before they woke up. So we get out there at like 5:30 in the morning, which is called dawn patrol.”

Frank continued, “Over the course of the last six months, we made an entire album that feels like that experience of going surfing and worshiping the Lord, and we spent so much time on this thing.”

Thus, Dawn Patrol was born.

Unfortunately, the name was already taken.

Frank said that while he and Hayden were given the “green light” by distributors and had spent time and money branding, marketing, and releasing a single under the moniker Dawn Patrol, they subsequently faced legal challenges to the name, and the band’s Instagram page was deactivated.

Now, Frank and Hayden are offering $10,000 to the fan who can come up with a new name for the band. In an Instagram video, Frank said that the funds would go to “someone in the comments.”

Frank explained that when someone came forward to allege that Frank and Hayden were committing copyright infringement, the distributor offered the offended party $10,000 to purchase the Dawn Patrol name.
