Last week, Grammy-nominated Christian music sensation Forrest Frank shared that his grandfather, Neil Frank, died on Christmas Eve (Dec. 24). Frank’s grandfather was 94.

Frank captioned his social media post, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” The post included a video of his grandfather’s reaction to one of Frank’s concerts, which featured a sermon Neil preached in 1985.

“I used it as the intro for my album and tour,” Frank wrote. “The way my grandma looks over at him…I loved walking on stage after this because of what it meant: I am the product of prayers, promises, and blessings.”

Frank shared that he and his wife named their new son, who was born earlier this month, after his grandfather—Sonny Neil Frank. “One day I will get to see you again,” said Frank. “Until then I will spend my time doing what you did best: spreading the name of Jesus.”

Neil was the former chief meteorologist for Houston’s KHOU 11 and director of the National Hurricane Center. He was one of the most trusted hurricane voices over the course of his long career.

Frank’s father, Ron, posted an emotional tribute to Neil on Facebook. Ron shared how his parents met and how they were inseparable. “He passed on Christmas Eve, surrounded by a praying family singing hymns and praises, lying in bed at home next to the love of his life,” Ron wrote. “Dr. Neil was well known as a weatherman, but please know that he may have only chosen that profession to figure out when it was best to play golf.”

Ron shared that his father was an exceptional athlete who loved to water ski and to play basketball, tennis, handball, and golf.

“At the Hurricane Center, he used his lunch hours to play hand ball against defensive backs from the Miami Dolphins and swept the floor against them,” Ron said. “Neil was a special athlete and an avid water skier that could run a slalom course on each shoulder or dazzle watchers with trick ski 360s.”
