Producers DeVon Franklin (“Miracles From Heaven,” “Breakthrough”) and Tyler Perry (“Precious,” “The Haves and the Have Nots”) have teamed up with Netflix to bring a modern-day interpretation of the Bible’s story about Ruth and Boaz.
The first trailer for “Ruth & Boaz” released on Thursday, Aug. 29.
According to the film’s synopsis, “Ruth & Boaz” is “a contemporary version of the story of Ruth and Boaz, one of the most iconic love stories in the Bible.”
“Set in Tennessee, ‘Ruth & Boaz’ tells the story of a young woman who escapes the Atlanta music scene to care for an elderly widowed woman, and in the process finds the love of her life and gains the mother she never had,” the description continues.
“Ruth & Boaz” is directed by Alanna Brown and stars Serayah McNeill (“Empire,” “Kingdom Business”) as Ruth, Tyler Lepley (“Harlem”) as Boaz, Phylicia Rashad (“The Cosby Show,” “Creed,” “The Beekeeper”) as Naomi, Lecrae (“Journey to Bethlehem”), Gregory Alan Williams (“Remember the Titans”) as Eli, Kenneth ‘Babyface’ Edmonds, and Jermaine Dupri.
Last year, Netflix announced a multi-year partnership with Tyler Perry Studios and Franklin that will bring faith-based films to the streaming giant.
“‘Ruth & Boaz,’ this love story has been a true labor of love, and I’m grateful to finally share this first look with the world,” Franklin told TUDUM. “This classic story has held such deep meaning for me and so many others for generations. I’m beyond excited for audiences to see the trailer and to experience this film on Netflix when it’s released.”
