There are few things as sad as watching a once great church grow old, become irrelevant and slowly die.

One of the problems many churches face these days is that they’re neither great at things or terrible at things.

I put the statement on social media. The responses were voluminous. After a couple of days, I had to stop counting and tally the results. There were hundreds of them.

When we regularly expose ourselves to new ideas, new angles and new thought processes, we open the door to growth.

Congregations have to have a voice in the process of change.

It is normal to wonder if you are ready to move on to the next ministry assignment. Nobody wants to stay too long or leave too early, so we end up playing resume roulette by dropping hints and resumes.

“In ministry life, there are more moments of the mundane than the magnificent.” As it should be.

The congregation we once loved has brought pain, and it’s hard—if not impossible—to love them now.
