What are the bridges of God? How does the gospel spread from my small group to a lost and dying world?

Epaphras wasn’t just another follower of Jesus. Oh no, he had an important part to play in the lives of the Colossians. He’s the one who they learned from. Learned about Jesus and learned how it changes their lives. It changes everything. And the lessons of Epaphras can be applied to small groups today.

When it comes to launching small groups in small churches, there is a dilemma. There aren’t many great models. Most materials and training about small groups come from pastors of megachurches.

An atmosphere where we are constantly trying to fix each other will quickly squelch honesty.

If a group is centered on a purpose and led by a focused leader, there is no greater tool for spiritual growth than a healthy small group.

I’ve noticed that there is a short list of small group ministry moves that can be toxic. They often seem harmless. They don’t look dangerous. But they can cause great damage.

Jim Egli: Although one-on-one is wonderful, I quit doing discipleship that way because it’s less effective and only impacts one person at a time.

We’re all social creatures and when a man sees other men actively enjoying a purpose, respect from others, a sense of accomplishment and, yes, even good food, it will draw others in like a moth to a flame--and small groups and mental health will flourish.
