2. How will this help move the story forward?

Next, this provides perspective on your place in the story. As the host, most likely you are assisting someone else as they tell the story. Your job might simply be to serve as the prop. If words from you won’t help, resist the urge to say them.

3. Will what I’m about to do or say derail the good that’s happening?

Finally, even if what you’re about to do or say moves the story forward… Could it cause such a distraction that children miss something important from the storyteller?

During large-group kidmin storytelling, the story is king. Program every word and action so they connects that story to the audience in a relevant way. This might include humor and fun, physical comedy, and sock puppets.

But remember: Use those conventions to tell the story rather than just get a laugh.
