“The position I’m in right now is a great opportunity to spread that message,” admitted Fields. He wanted to “tell the world how I feel about him—how great he is.”
Fields has “been through a lot” in his career and has a long list of awards and accomplishments. He has racked up 4,000 passing yards and 41 touchdowns in his high school career and another 5,700 yards and 67 touchdowns in his college career. This year has presented his lowest set of stats, after his time with the Chicago Bears and Pittsburgh Steelers.
“God’s been there through the ups and downs,” Fields said. “I’m probably at a low right now. The old me would feel a certain type of way.”
Fields admitted to a new change within him, saying, “My faith is so rooted in Christ to where it’s like nothing can break me.”
As far as his current role with the New York Jets, Fields doesn’t foresee any changes. “I’m going to be the same,” he said. “I’m going to come to work the same. I’m going to lead the same.”
He wants to continue to spread the message of “how good God is.” Fields continued, “No matter what I go through in life, I know I’m strong enough to handle it. I know he’s strong enough to help me handle it.
Christian QBs Known for Their Strong Faith
The Christian faith of many athletes can be seen both on and off the field.
Chicago Bears QB Tyson Bagent was described as “a faithful Christian churchgoer” whose faith “helps make him who he is.”
Undrafted QB Payton Thorne has been tending to his father who is fighting cancer.
“One thing is for certain: Christ will be glorified in this,” Thorne wrote of his father’s diagnosis and grim prognosis. “There is a peace knowing we serve a God who has already defeated death. That’s not just some positivity talk, that’s truth.”
