It’s not uncommon for Christian athletes to give God glory and praise after a touchdown, a great play, or a big win. But after a loss? After seven losses? Or after getting benched at halftime? New York Jets QB Justin Fields did just that and spread God’s love even as his professional future is unknown.
“This thing that’s happening right now is a great opportunity for me to spread his Word and spread his love,” said Fields during a postgame interview.
Justin Fields Shares ‘How Good God Is’ Even During a Losing Season
Going into Week 8 of the 2025 NFL season, the New York Jets have the worst record of the 32 teams. The Jets have lost all seven of their games.
New York Jets owner Woody Johnson criticized not only Fields but also rookie head coach Aaron Glenn for the team’s current status. “It looks like [Glenn] is turning around parts of [the team],” Johnson said when asked about his faith in the team’s head coach. “It’s hard when you have a quarterback with a rating that we got. He has the ability but something is just, it’s not jiving.”
Glenn responded that Johnson’s words aren’t anything new. “It’s really something that’s been said across the board from everybody, including Justin,” said Glenn.
There’s speculation as to who will be the starting QB—Fields or backup QB Tyrod Taylor—as the Jets go against the Cincinnati Bengals on Oct. 26.
The QB referred to himself as “low-key addicted” to reading the Bible. He said that Scripture study and “being real” have contributed to him remaining grounded.
“It doesn’t really affect life [from] the bigger perspective,” Fields said about his life on the field and in the spotlight. “God controls everything that happens in this world.”
Fields opened up in an interview where he began “to be real right now.”
“I’ve always asked God to give me an opportunity and a platform to spread his Word,” said Fields, “and sometimes it doesn’t always play out as you plan it.”
After seven losses this season, Fields is the target of criticism, and his future position is at stake. But this turn of events hasn’t stopped the NFL player from sharing his faith.
Stay rooted in Jesus Justin Fields. 🙏
