Lionsgate and Kingdom Story Company have released the first trailer for the highly anticipated sequel “I Can Only Imagine 2.”
In 2018, the previous film, “I Can Only Imagine,” became a breakout success, grossing more than $86 million at the box office.
Earlier this year, ChurchLeaders was invited to visit the set of “I Can Only Imagine 2” and speak off-record with cast and crew. We can say with confidence you’ll want to mark your calendars for the film’s Feb. 20, 2026, release.
The film continues the inspiring true story of MercyMe frontman Bart Millard, this time exploring his journey through a deeply personal battle as a father—one he cannot fight alone.
Joining the film’s cast is award-winning actor Milo Ventimiglia (“This Is Us,” “Heroes,” “Gilmore Girls”) who plays singer-songwriter Tim Timmons. Reprising their roles from the first film is John Michael Finley (“Faith of Angels”) as Millard, Dennis Quaid (“Reagan,” “American Underdog,” “The Day After Tomorrow”) as Arthur Millard, and Trace Adkins (“Old Henry,” “Deepwater Horizon”) as Scott Brickell.
“Tim and I spent a ton of time [together], and he was on set every day,” Ventimiglia told People. “The nice part about the whole filming experience was I met now one of my very good friends for the rest of my life.”
Twenty years ago, doctors gave Timmons a life expectancy of zero after he was diagnosed with cancer. Ventimiglia shared how Timmons’ story drew him to the role.

“What drew me to the role,” said Ventimiglia, “was this man who had been given a sentence of cancer and had still put a lot of positivity out in the world, although he was battling and dealing with something so daunting and terrifying.”
