Formerly the lead singer for We the Kingdom, Franni Rae Cash Cain has launched a solo career and is now opening for award-winning artist Brandon Lake. Cash recently opened up about her own personal journey—how God delivered her from a cult and set her on an arena stage.
“Never would have believed the redemption God would bring in my story,” Cash shared on social media.
Franni Cash ‘Walked Out of a Religious Cult at 18’
Christian artist Franni Cash has recently launched a solo career and has shared more about her early years. “My senior year of high school, my family and I walked out of the religious cult I’d grown up in after some things came to light,” Cash shared in a post. “And at first…I honestly felt like my whole world had been ripped out from under me. I lost community, identity, certainty, and I never imagined I’d end up here.”
Cash described her experience “inside that system.”
“I remember feeling deep down that something was off,” she said, “and I used to tell people, ‘I want to visit other churches and see what God is doing in other parts of the world.’”
A few years after her family left the cult, they formed a band, We the Kingdom. For the band’s first five years, Franni Cash was the lead singer, and the close group also included her dad, brother, uncle, and family friend. Their debut album, “Holy Water,” earned them a GMA Dove Award for Pop/Contemporary Album of the Year. We the Kingdom was also awarded the Contemporary Christian Artist of the Year Award that year.
In 2023, Cash abruptly announced that she wouldn’t be finishing out the band’s remaining shows that year. She signed with Capital Christian Music Group, the same label of incredible Christian artists such as Chris Tomlin, Kari Jobe, and Crowder.
“God has been prompting a change of seasons in my heart, and I will be honoring that,” said Cash in a social media post.
This year, Cash has joined Brandon Lake’s King of Hearts Tour and will open at the fall events. Pat Barrett is also a supporting artist on the tour.
“And now…here I am,” shared Cash. “Opening for Brandon Lake every night. Standing on an arena stage, watching what God is doing across the country. A kind of freedom, belonging, and hope I never thought I’d feel.”
Her social media video showed her singing a We the Kingdom song, “Dancing on the Waves,” which focuses on the intentionality of God. The lyrics include:
I set every star into place
So you would remember my name
I made it all for you
You are my masterpiece
You are the reason I sing
This is my song for you
