James Shotwell of Country Minute commented on Brown’s recent remarks and said he [Shotwell] was at the show, which begins with a monologue where Brown describes his abusive childhood. “The show then goes from darkness, which is where Zac feels he started life, to light,” said Shotwell.

One fan’s recording of the entire show reveals that “Heavy Is the Head” and the imagery that accompanies it is the song the band starts off with [Editor’s note: This video contains language some might find offensive.]. In his monologue beforehand, Brown reflects on his journey, calling the show his “love letter to you” and telling fans he’s never told his whole story.
“As a confused, young boy I’d lie in bed gripping a knife, waiting for a chance to end my abusive stepfather,” he said, going on to explain how he was able to go “from darkness to light, from pain to joy.” At one time he gripped a knife in fear, but “tonight I grip this guitar in gratitude and hold you close in my heart with love.”
