“First of all, social media can take anything anywhere it wants it to go, and I saw that. There were all kind of lies being told and people uninformed,” said Evans. “Just damaging things. A lot of it had nothing to do with anything.”

Evans advised leaders “to be wise.” He said, “I think if you have a solid church with solid elders and who love God and love you, that’s where you have to start. The Bible says restoration should happen from spiritual people, not from everybody—and everybody’s not spiritual.”
“So you have be able to discern what’s spiritual and what’s not. What’s just garbage or talk,” Evans encouraged. “So when you handle it spiritually then it can be determined where it should go and where it shouldn’t go because you’re in a spiritual environment. You’re not just in social media.”
Dr. Tony Evans’ Son, Jonathan, Named Lead Pastor of OCBF
On Dec. 7, 2025, Jonathan, Evans’ son, was installed as the lead pastor of OCBF.
While preaching that morning on the biblical account of Moses passing his mantle of leadership to Joshua, the elder Evans told the congregation that he believes God has still “got something for Tony Evans down the line that I ain’t seeing yet, ‘cause he still has a purpose for my life and gifts as long as he has me here.”
After his installation, Jonathan told his dad, “You’re a good father and I’m grateful that that’s one title that will never change or shift.”
