AFC Playoff Teams Led by Christian Quarterbacks
1. Bo Nix, Denver Broncos
Bo Nix, a second-year pro out of Oregon, led the Broncos to their first AFC West championship since 2015. The 25-year-old QB is vocal about his faith, saying, “I know where my joy and my foundation, I know where everything goes through, and it’s Jesus.” In his Instagram bio, Nix writes, “Jesus saves” and “Colossians 3:23.”
Nix also posted a Scripture verse last fall, when revealing that he and wife Izzy are expecting their first child. The couple wrote, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart. Jeremiah 1:5.”
2. Drake Maye, New England Patriots
Also in his second NFL season is Drake Maye, who helped the Patriots secure a 14-3 record and win the AFC East. The newlywed, 23, said teammate Kendrick Bourne has inspired him to participate in couples’ Bible studies. “He’s watching me,” Bourne said of Maye, “so I have to lead [by example].”
Since his rookie year, Maye has expressed appreciation for being able to play in the NFL. “I’m blessed and thankful…and just trying to take advantage of the opportunities that I have,” the QB said in 2024. “I’m here for the Good Lord and blessed for all that he’s given to me.”
3. Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville Jaguars
The red-hot Jags had a huge turnaround this season, going from 4-13 to 13-4. Largely thanks to fifth-year quarterback Trevor Lawrence, the team enters the playoffs with an eight-game winning streak.
