To fight distractions, Todd encouraged congregants to follow the example of Nehemiah as he built the wall. “What Nehemiah said when people started trying to distract him…he said, ‘I am engaged in a great work,’” the pastor noted, encouraging people to “find your great work” in the new year.

“All this controversy [about the parody] came out while I’m doing 21 days of prayer and fasting,” Todd continued. “Come on. Why I’mma stop getting up at 5:45 [a.m.], praying with people all over the globe from a place that I ain’t never been to and can barely say, and people are joining us, thousands of people to pray and seek God?”

To avoid distractions, Todd urged church members to “become obsessed with obedience” to God. That, not social media or cultural trends, should dominate “your mind, schedule, and attention,” he said.

Mike Todd on Distractions and Disappointments

While preaching at Transformation Church on Sunday, Oklahoma Pastor Mike Todd acknowledged that distractions and disappointments are part of earthly life. “[God] said, ‘Hey, in this world you will have trouble,’” he said. “It’s the sin nature that entered in at the Garden, when Adam and Eve disobeyed God.”

Regarding disappointments, Todd pointed to having a son who is on the autism spectrum. He added:

It’s disappointing to know that all the good that we have done in 10 years, almost 11 years of ministry, people want to sum it up as I’m a false prophet and I steal money from the church. That’s disappointing. We’ve seen 191,000 people come to Christ in the last decade. … We’ve given away $36 million to different organizations, widows, orphans, housed families, changed people, single moms. We have done so much work for the cause of Christ…and it’s disappointing that there’s pastors that would preach whole messages against me today.

Although Christians can’t skip disappointments and challenges, Todd said, we can “go forward faster,” like buying a fast pass at a crowded amusement park. “What would happen if you became obsessed with Jesus?” he asked. “What if Jesus dominated your thoughts, your time, and your attention?”

The pastor then urged listeners to fast-forward through disappointment by being willing to DARE: Dream, Ask, Risk, Engage.

Some People Link Megachurch Parody to Mike Todd

Although Oklahoma Pastor Mike Todd didn’t mention Druski’s parody sketch by name, some social media users suggested that Todd was an intended target. “Why did I know it’d be Mike Todd to respond lolllllllll,” someone wrote in response to the pastor’s sermon. Others wrote of Todd, “Bro’s defensive energy says enough,” and, “A hit dog gonna holler every time.”

Like where do yall think it came from?” someone else posted on X, along with a snippet of Todd dancing on stage. Another person wrote, “He is conveniently not wearing his chains and he’s also dressed down during this sermon lolol.”
