Prominent Christians continue reacting to a viral parody video about megachurch pastors. On Jan. 12, comedian Druski (real name Drew Desbordes) shared a sketch poking fun of high-profile pastors who have large congregations and great wealth. The clip has received millions of views, with some people connecting the dots to pastors such as T.D. Jakes, Joel Osteen, and Mike Todd.

On Sunday (Jan. 18), Todd—pastor of Transformation Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma—alluded to Druski’s video, calling it one of the enemy’s “weapons of mass distraction.” Watching and commenting on the clip, Todd said, is one way Satan tries to prevent people from doing God’s work.

In a sermon titled “Fast Forward: Let’s Get to the Good Part,” Todd referenced a “hilarious” recent video, saying, “The thing that I was most taken aback by was how much frustration it created in people,” as evidenced by comments on social media.

“I was literally watching people go back and forth with people and denounce people and call people names,” Todd told worshipers. “Do you know how many people didn’t spend time with their kids this week, fighting with somebody they don’t know in the comments?”

Thinking you need to “be in the know” about cultural happenings is an “attack on your focus,” Todd said, not “some attack on the church.”

Pastor Mike Todd: Parody Wasn’t Directed at Me

Mike Todd, the 39-year-old pastor of Transformation Church, has raised eyebrows for his clothing and his unconventional use of sermon props. During his Jan. 18 sermon, he said he has been off social media lately but started hearing about Druski’s megachurch parody.

“I was like, ‘That’s crazy. I don’t even got a Rolls-Royce,’” Todd told congregants, to laughter and applause. “I don’t remember being that big. Like, I was big, but I don’t remember being that big.”

The pastor then said he couldn’t allow criticism to distract him “because I’m building something,” helping people find “transformation in Christ.” Todd added, “So somebody’s obsessed with what somebody made that wasn’t even directly pointed at me. But it distracted them from what God told them to do.”
