Artificial intelligence cannot replace God because it is limited by the brokenness of humanity, actor Chris Pratt said at the premiere of his new movie, “Mercy.” In the film, Pratt plays a detective accused of murdering his wife and has 90 minutes to defend himself to an AI judge. If he fails, he will be put to death.
“What are your thoughts on AI outside of the film?” a reporter with AP News Entertainment asked Pratt at the premiere of the movie. “In a sense, in this film, it’s almost like playing God.”
“Oh yeah, well, AI is man-made, you know? And so it cannot be God,” Pratt answered. “It’s inherently flawed, and it always will be because it’s made by the brokenness of man. So…it’ll always be limited the way we are limited. It is not God, and it will not replace God.”

Chris Pratt Is ‘Cautiously Optimistic’ About AI
Chris Pratt is an actor who rose to fame while on the TV show “Parks and Recreation” and has since starred in the “Guardians of the Galaxy” franchise, the “Jurassic World” franchise, and numerous other films and series. Pratt is vocal about his Christian faith and partners with the prayer and meditation app Hallow.
In another interview at the premiere of “Mercy,” Pratt said his role in the film was a “bit of a departure” for him, adding, “It was really challenging and technical…it’s visually really stunning, and I think it’s a special movie.”
Regarding the film’s focus on AI, Pratt said, “It does feel really prescient and more so now than even when we were filming it a year-and-a-half ago. I mean the world has changed so much and so, as we promote the film, a lot of conversations are coming up around our use of AI.”

However, he is “concerned” about how it might affect his children.
Pratt, who has three children with wife Katherine Schwarzenegger and one son with ex-wife Anna Faris, said his kids do not have social media or phones. “They haven’t even really seen movies,” he said.
