Frank and Asbury, both also Christian singers, had initially planned an alternative halftime show of their own. When Turning Point USA announced it would air a halftime show, the pair initially met with leadership from Turning Point USA before deciding not to participate.

“And this is coming from a dude that respected Charlie Kirk,” Walker emphasized. Nevertheless, Walker said that he wouldn’t have performed at Turning Point USA’s halftime show because “I hate division. Jesus is not divisive.”

Nevertheless, Walker expressed appreciation for those who pushed back on his original post and said that he wanted to post a video “not [to] double down, but just to come on here and go, ‘Hey, love you all, but that was some weird stuff.’”

Walker said that he prays that someone saw Turning Point USA’s halftime show and “will go to church this Sunday,” but he also pointed out that Kid Rock’s expressions of faith during his performance don’t negate his positive references to drugs and prostitution.

“Something feels off to me,” Walker said. “I don’t like it. And that’s okay. You can. I don’t have to.”
