“He loves Jesus,” said Martin, “and he loves to make people laugh, and he’s just got some real insight into what it means to be a man that loves the Lord living in this world.”

Foxworthy commented that, after being on the road for 41 years, he did not relish getting on an airplane for the roundtable. However, he “was really burdened with this.”

“I have a little thing in the middle of my Bible,” he told the others. “I have a little card and I said, ‘Please break my heart with the things that break your heart.’ And I think God is brokenhearted at the way manhood has kind of crumbled.”

“I have dad struggles,” he said, explaining that his father “left real young. He was married six times, drank, [smoked], [cussed], told dirty jokes.” Foxworthy had to ask the men in his life how to be a good father and husband since his own father did not provide an example for him.

“My experience with men is somewhere along the way they pick up this lie that silent suffering is noble strength,” Pastor Matt Chandler observed.

Tim Tebow, who had just become a father the day before, made the point that pride can manifest simply as Christians being self-righteous and not realizing how deeply they need Jesus’ salvation.
