Tim Tebow’s parents were missionaries in the Philippines, and he told RNS that he knew he wanted to help people with disabilities ever since he was 15 and saw a man who was an outcast in his village because his feet were on backwards. Said Tebow, “I knew from that moment that yeah, I wanted to play sports and all this stuff, but I knew that my purpose was to fight for people who can’t fight for themselves.”
While in Albania, the athlete met people who had not left their homes in over 10 years because of the shame associated with having a disability. He told Fox News, “We want to have masses of humanity celebrating them because that doesn’t happen a lot.”
“I believe God has called us to a lot of things,” Tebow said to CNA, “but the two greatest are to love the Lord our God with all our heart, and all our mind, and all our strength, and to love our neighbor as [we love] ourselves; and so I want to spend the rest of my life trying to do those two things.”
