‘Pastor After Pastor’ Thinking About Leaving Ministry Because of Criticism, Burnout

“The tragic predicament of the depleted spiritual leader is that they are furnished with habits and language which might serve to conceal the direness of their state until the point of sudden collapse,” tweeted Matthew Podszus, director of the Chicago-based campus ministry Poema, in a separate thread on Friday. “If your pastor seems to be hurting, it is undoubtedly worse than you realize.”

Others responded to White’s tweet not with their own experiences but with calls for Christians to encourage their pastors. One wrote, “This is still Pastors Appreciation Month. The biggest thing you can do for your pastor is stop complaining about every little thing to your pastor.”

“Pray for your pastors and their families. Find ways to actively encourage them,” wrote another. “It matters so much.”
