Ukrainian Christians Singing Days Before the Russian Invasion Goes Viral

Before Russia invaded, Anatoliy Raychynets of the Ukrainian Bible Society told Eternity News that it’s been tough to keep Bibles in stock lately “because people are asking for whatever we have.” He adds, “In our churches—whether it is Orthodox, Catholic, Protestant, or Evangelical churches—there are more new people. Not only on Sundays or Saturdays, but also during the week. On evenings when we have a Bible study, new people are coming. They want to pray, to hear something that brings hope or comfort.”

Christians around the world are lifting up Ukraine in prayer. Author Lee Strobel tweeted a photo Friday of Colorado Christian University students gathered in prayer for the country and its citizens. Missouri Pastor Mike Leake tweeted that his church hopes to sing a line of a hymn in Ukrainian this Sunday.

As for specific prayer requests, Open Doors suggests these topics: “That tensions will de-escalate between Russia and Ukraine, that the church in Ukraine will be a beacon of hope, and that God will thwart the plans of the enemy towards Ukraine.”

The Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations (UCCRO) says, “The truth and the international community are on the Ukrainian side. We believe that good will prevail, with God’s help.”
