Regardless of the actual origins of the word “Easter,” there is no question that Easter Sunday is the highest and holiest day on the Christian calendar because it commemorates the resurrection of Jesus.
In 1 Corinthians 15, Paul called Jesus’ death and resurrection a matter of “first importance,” saying, “If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith…But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.”
