ERLC Panel: Church Can Serve Women With or Without Roe

Denise Harle, director of Alliance Defending Freedom’s Center for Life, said the viability line “has handcuffed states for decades.” Mississippi challenged that doctrine by enacting a ban several weeks before what is considered viability, she told the audience. “And so I think the only intellectually honest way for the court to do this is to write a decision that says [abortion] was never in the Constitution and there is no such right.”

Kevin Smith, teaching pastor of Family Church in West Palm Beach, Fla., told attendees regarding their pro-life advocacy, “We don’t come in from the right or the left. We come in from the authority of the Scripture and the declaration in Genesis 1:27 that human life is created in the image and the likeness of God.”

Todd Unzicker, executive director of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina, shared a testimony about a woman choosing life for her preborn child on the day of the dedication of an ultrasound machine the convention placed in partnership with the ERLC’s Psalm 139 Project. He encouraged attendees to request their state conventions also partner with the Psalm 139 Project.

In an opening prayer, SBC President Ed Litton asked God “to bring an end to this scourge” of abortion. He prayed that God would use Southern Baptists “to bring healing in every town and city and village throughout this land.”
