For example, Wickham said that when he used to lead others in prayer before worship, his prayers were routine and he felt pressure to say the right words. Now, he worries less about having the right words to pray and just has an eager expectancy “that brings so much joy and excitement.”
“I can’t wait to ask God for things according to his will in the name of Jesus,” said Wickham.
The worship leader encourages people who do not have an urgency to their prayer lives to take time to sit in silence and wait for God to speak to them. Listening to God speak “has become part of my life now,” said Wickham, who adds that God always speaks to him in some way when he takes the time to listen.
The joy Wickham experiences as a result of this change in his life has led him to realize, “Whoa I’ve been missing out…Why haven’t I done this more?”
