Exactly.
Phil Vischer started out as a creator who loved Jesus. Despite setbacks, screw-ups, & sucker-punches, he’s still doing that job.
He’s not going to stop just because it isn’t popular. https://t.co/9KfC9fysXM— Christian Janeway 🖖🥂🔍🏴☠️ (@XianJaneway) October 3, 2022
ChurchLeaders reached out to Phil Vischer and Joel Berry for comment. Berry responded to questions about the purpose of The Bee’s article and how he would respond to its critics with the following statement: “I’m happy to provide clarity for your readers. I think a lot of people just don’t seem to get the joke. It’s that Phil Vischer released a new VeggieTales episode where Laura Carrot gets an abortion. I hope this helps.”
Regarding his position on abortion, Vischer said, “I said I was in favor of making exceptions for the life of the mother, and probably for rape, if it was very early in the pregnancy. I believe this is the position of the National Association of Evangelicals [NAE]- or [at] least it used to be. (If they’ve changed it, they haven’t said so publicly.).”
When asked why he referred to the NAE instead of Scripture to support his position, Vischer said:
I didn’t refer to Scripture because there is no specific Scripture that tells us whether its better to force a 10 year-old girl to become a mother – after she’s been violently raped, as opposed to taking a Plan B pill that might cause a fertilized egg to fail to implant. (Which most of these folks consider an abortion.)
It’s a situation where we’re compounding evil with another evil. Either the evil of a violent rape and then a very early stage abortion, or the evil of a violent rape and then forcing a 10 year-old to become a mother. At 10. (If you’ve seen a verse about that, I haven’t. “Love your neighbor” could lead you in either direction.)
