Organizers express gratitude for supporters “because you are our only source of funding and the reason we can reach the underserved—those who suffer from illness, trauma and addiction, those who suffer in so many ways, the men, the women, and the children in the shadows of the wealth and prosperity that have blessed so many in SW Florida.”

Also in that post, the nonprofit describes conditions—besides the hurricane—that have caused extra challenges during 2022. Those include high fuel prices, skyrocketing rents in the area, and small rental units being converted to tourist use. “This put an entirely new group of people on the streets,” says Feed Thy Neighbor. The nonprofit issues this reminder: “When the wealth of those at the top soars, the pain of those at the bottom expands.”
