As the track progresses, Smith reads from Psalm 8, which focuses on the might of God as displayed in creation. Del Rey laughs when Smith says God is “infatuated” with humankind and laughs again when he calls God the “rhino designer.” At one point, it sounds like she says, “This is cool.” The track ends after Smith says he has realized his preaching is mostly about him.

Lana Del Rey does not appear to have commented about her inclusion of the track, and commentators are coming up with varying interpretations of it. RELEVANT writer Emily Brown sees the track as the singer rejecting her own selfishness, while The Daily Beast’s Coleman Spilde believes “examined against ‘A&W,’ ‘Judah Smith Interlude’ plays as wholly ironic.”

Whatever their conclusions are about the track’s meaning, few people seem to like Del Rey’s decision to include it, with many of the singer’s fans decrying Smith’s view that homosexuality is a sin.
