Hall remarked that the event hosted two men with statues outside the stadium who were once looked up to like gods on the field by many, who are now in turn sharing their testimonies to thousands of people proclaiming, “Jesus is the only Way.”

Before Chance The Rapper took the stage, Hall gave a clear gospel message and invited everyone in the stadium and watching the livestream to give their lives to Jesus. Following Hall, Life.Church’s founder and senior pastor Craig Groeschel came onstage and gave a brief word of encouragement. “I want to thank God for some crazy students that had the faith to believe that the gospel could be spread in this stadium and around the state.”

“We’re not just praying for revival,” Groeschel continued, “We’re in the middle of one. You can feel it. You can see it. It’s around you.”

Life.Church’s pastor encouraged those who made decisions for Christ to be in God’s Word and get connected to a church and then he prayed.

During his 45-minute set, the popular rapper said he was humbled to be asked to join FTS and said he knew it was God’s plan for him to be there.

“I came here to fill the stadium,” Chance The Rapper told the crowd. “My Father has a very important plan that’s specific and I think I saw being here was a part of that plan. I think there’s a lot of people here from different walks of life that maybe heard about the free show or that I was gonna be here or that Chandler Moore was gonna be here…I just want to thank God that we’re all here tonight.”

Hall and event coordinators received pushback after announcing Chance The Rapper would be featured as one of FTS’ performers.

“Chance the Rapper is a struggling Christian at best. Please don’t use him just to draw a crowd! Not fair to him and sets an unbiblical example,” one of Hall’s Instagram followers wrote. Another asked, “Chance??? Please explain how this is gospel driven?”

Feedback from those in attendance said they were inspired by Chance’s performance, some came away saying they had never heard a set like that from him before—calling it a “Christian performance.”

Hall shared that he got to pray with dozens of people throughout the night, including venue workers and students outside the stadium who made first-time decisions to follow Christ. Hall said that Chance even asked him to pray for his band before they took the stage and the rapper then followed Hall in praying for them all as well.

Describing Chance’s set, Hall said it was filled with lots of worship music and encouragement. He also responded to critics of the performer: “When should someone start sharing the gospel?” he asked. “The second you know Jesus is the second to start telling people about Jesus. If you wait until you’re perfect, you will never do anything.”
