Phil explains that through Jesus, he finally learned how not to live for himself but to give his life away. “Funny thing is,” he said, “once I gave it up, that’s when I got it all back…You’ve got to come to the end of yourself to find the beginning of God.”
“I got to tell you, Phil,” Al responds. “That’s starting to make a lot of sense.”
‘Come to Jesus,’ Phil Robertson Tells ‘The Blind’ Viewers
This conversation between Phil and Al, which frames the whole movie, was pivotal in the real-life Al’s spiritual life. “After this conversation, Big Al became a follower of Jesus,” says text that appears after the story concludes. “Three months later, he passed away. Phil preached at his funeral.”
Speaking to viewers after the story ends, the real-life Phil Robertson reiterated the gospel message: “I’m standing on the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus. You really can have love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. You can have those qualities for your own life.”
Phil urged viewers to put their trust in Jesus like he did. “Come to Jesus through faith, believe he died for you, was buried and raised from the dead, he’s seated at the right hand of the Father right now,” he said. “It’s a wonderful thing, and I highly recommend you just start walking by faith.”
“My question is: You got a better story?” Phil concluded. “I’d love to hear it. We could be wrong, but I doubt it.”
