Davis added, “That’s why I come in and say praise God. I’m grateful for this platform on a Sunday that I can, even if I miss church, I get to come in and have church. So praise God for that.”
How Christian Teammates Stay Focused on ‘Our Real Mission’
Although Davis then opened the press conference to questions, he limited them to “life questions or anything that maybe I can go deeper on what I’ve shared.” One reporter asked how and when the football player finds time to study Scripture. That gave Davis the opportunity to share ways that he and fellow Christian teammates grow their faith and build up one another.
Every Wednesday is team prayer, he said. “Anybody in our building that’s going through something, whether it’s on the field, off the field, life…we pray for 30 minutes to an hour.” Davis noted, “That’s where you really get to see what people are going through. Most of the time, the prayers are not football related.”
In addition, the Saints hold weekly team Bible study and chapel. “We’re constantly trying to stay on our real mission, as believers in the locker room,” said Davis. “But whether you’re a believer or not a believer, we want to make sure you know that the cross is available, and the power of God is available for you.”
