Some of Trump’s rivals for the GOP presidential nomination also criticized his comments. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis called them “absurd,” and his Never Back Down political action committee posted, “It’s clear [Trump’s] angry at Netanyahu for recognizing Trump lost in 2020.”
Mike Pence, former vice president under Trump, said, “This is no time for the former president or any other American leader to be sending any message other than America stands with Israel.”
Zionist Organization of America president Mort Klein described Trump’s words as “reckless and irresponsible.” He asked, “How does he expect support from people who care about Israel after making statements like this?” Klein also bemoaned the lack of “celebrities, athletes, business leaders, writers, journalists, college leaders, screaming out publicly to support Jewish State of Israel” and condemn the terrorists.
Jaime Harrison, Democratic National Committee chairman, called Trump’s comments “disgusting, depraved, and dangerous.” Other people said Trump’s words reflect narcissism, because “everything is about how he looks.”
