‘Lyrics Matter’—Evangelist Shane Pruitt Sounds the Alarm on Taylor Swift’s New Album

“In transparency I used to listen to Taylor, HOWEVER I think now it’s time to reconsider,” Pruitt said.

Pruitt, who ministers to thousands of students, ministry leaders, and adults and is the co-author of “Calling Out the Called: Discipling Those Called to Ministry Leadership,” encouraged Christians and parents to be mindful of what they are exposing themselves to—because Swift’s new album might just be mocking their belief in Jesus.

“As Christians who are filled with the Spirit,” he warned, “should we be entertained by, sing with, and expose our kids to lyrics that aren’t just different than what you believe, but are actually mocking what you believe?”

Eleven of Swift’s songs on her 31-song double album contain an explicit lyric tag, including her song “Down Bad,” in which she repeatedly sings the f-word.

Pruitt’s social media post has collected over 14,000 likes and hundreds of comments, with a mix of those who agree and disagree.
