Kirk Franklin’s Performance Under Fire
On Franklin’s Instagram page, next to video of him dancing at the festival in Jamaica, Christian rapper Lecrae posted a clip from the movie “How Stella Got Her Groove Back.” Someone commented, “This man needs to be canceled. This [has] nothing to do with gospel his behaving is sickening What is he doing?” Another wrote, “Who am I to judge I guess it’s his way of praising his God.”
One lengthy comment read, in part, “This is just wrong. It would be better to have not done the show entirely than to present yourself like this in partial nudity to minister Gospel music.” The user continued, “We are set [apart]…holy, consecrated. May the Lord deliver this man and bring him back to the feet of Jesus.”
On March 27, Protestia shared video from Franklin’s Reunion Tour. In the clip, the singer backs into and grinds against a female performer.
The same day, Franklin posted, “I cannot overstate how imperfect I am as a Christian man. I have sins, shortcomings, and mistakes that amaze me Gods continued grace on my life in spite of.”
“But today I admit my heart is broken for the image of the faith I represent to see 60 dollar bibles being sold during Holy Week,” he added.

Referencing Donald Trump selling Bibles that contain America’s founding documents, Franklin continued, “If this isn’t a clear picture of the dismantling and desolation of western Christianity right before our eyes then we’ve become numb to the continued duplicity of what we confess to be true. Sad day….”
Someone responded, “What do you call the way you were dancing with your behind against the front of the woman? Jesus correct you. Amen. Repent.”
