“Her life has so much fruit and I know this is just the beginning,” Alexa said. While painful, her loss “will be so purposeful.”
The couple, who just celebrated their 10th anniversary in January, expressed how important it is to have family-friendly films.
“There’s so much junk out there right now,” Carlos said. “It’s sad that there are definitely a handful of kids movies in the last five years that I won’t let my kids watch.”
Alexa agreed, “Nowadays, you have no idea [what is in family-friendly movies] because the bar has changed so much for what is okay, and what is safe for a kid…the moral compass of what has been acceptable has just changed so much.”

That is why Christian media content done with excellence is “so important now,” the veteran Hollywood actress added.
“I think the reason why so many faith-based movies—and I’m so sorry to say this—are unwatchable is because they’re actually not made by Christian people,” Alexa said. “They’re made by people who think this is what Christianity is, and they know there’s actually dollar signs behind faith-based movies.”
For example, actors often portray talking to God by getting on their “hands and knees,” Alexa said. “And it’s like, no, no, I mean, there are times where I’m on my knees pleading to God. But for the most part, when I talk to God, it’s like [our conversation now], it’s very relational and a lot of people don’t realize that.”
That is one of the reasons the PenaVegas were excited for this project. The character that Carlos plays “really views God as transactional in the beginning, and he doesn’t quite understand a relationship—what a relationship with God actually looks like. And by the end of the film, he understands that relational God, he understands that caring and loving God, where you can go to him for everything.”
Carlos shared that he “hopes that [‘Mr. Manhattan’] can reach a wider audience who wouldn’t necessarily want to watch a faith-based film.”
Stream “Mr. Manhattan” starting May 23 on PureFlix.
