The first posthumous album from DMX, “Exodus,” was released in 2021. “Let Us Pray: Chapter X,” came out Dec. 13 and was produced by Grammy Award-winner Warryn Campbell. A statement about the album from the rapper’s estate says:
DMX knew God was using him to reach people. Though, at times, he could not understand why he was chosen to do so or why he was special, still he prayed. Let Us Pray: Chapter X is a collection of DMX’s prayers and an opportunity for you to hear Earl Simmons’ words from the heart.
“When you hear his voice and prayers in this project, we hope you feel him speaking directly to you, as we do,” the statement concludes. “X, speak to our souls, and Let Us Pray.”
“Bear With Me,” the track featuring Lecrae, begins with Lecrae’s lyrics and ends with lyrics from DMX’s song, “Ready to Meet Him,” the final track from the 1998 album “Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood.”
Near the end of his prayer, DMX asks:
Let your thought and my heart go hand in hand
I first thought but to start, but I stand a man
And for as long as I can, as long as you permit me
Please give me the strength I need to live, bear with me
In his lyrics, Lecrae describes battling loneliness, seeing friends die, and fearing losing relationships. Then he reminds himself of what Jesus has suffered for us, saying:
It’s like I see you looking at me, with my namе written in your blood
And you died so I can live
And you did it all out of love
I can’t pay you back, but I still give you my all
Help me forgive those that hate me and want to see me fall
And we all miss The Dog, but now his spirit’s unleashed
X, speak to our souls, may your words bring us peace
