Pastor Greg Laurie Addresses Critics Who ‘Get Upset’ When He Visits the White House

It was at this point that Laurie addressed his critics and said that he will follow the Bible’s command to pray for our nation’s leaders, no matter what their political affiliation. “I’d say [there are] two things we can do for America,” said Laurie. “No. 1, pray for our nation. Pray that God would pour out his Spirit. Pray that God would send another spiritual awakening.”

“And then, No. 2, preach the gospel,” he continued. “That is the only thing that will change a person. That’s the only thing that can then, in effect, change culture. And then that is the only thing that can, in its ultimate effect, change the nation.”

“So I count it a privilege to be invited here any time to have whatever influence I can have, to let my light so shine before men,” said the pastor. 

“So let’s continue to pray for our nation. We need it more than ever,” Laurie said as he concluded. “We really do, and I do see some promising signs happening around me that would say, ‘Are we on the brink of another spiritual awakening?’” 

“I think that’s entirely possible,” he said. “Lot of interesting things happening, a lot of cultural shifts happening right now. It makes one wonder, is the Lord getting ready to pour his Spirit out again? Let’s pray that happens.”
