Newsboys‘ new frontman Adam Agee told members of a Facebook group that the band had confronted Michael Tait regarding abuse “rumors” but he would always “emphatically” deny them.
Last week, Tait, the former Newsboys frontman and member of the iconic 90s Christian band DC Talk, was accused of grooming and sexually assaulting three men in their early 20s between 2004 and 2014. DC Talk has been on an indefinite hiatus since 2000.
Without providing many details, Tait announced in January that he was leaving the Newsboys just days before the band was scheduled to embark on their multi-city Worldwide Revival Nights Tour.

Agee, who fronted the band Stellar Kart and the brief comeback of Audio Adrenaline in 2015, was shocked when Tait announced he was leaving. “I will tell you all, we only found out a week ago that Tait was stepping down,” Agee said on Jan. 19. “We had already sent our new single to radio and had 60 shows booked for 2025. We scrambled and created a show for tonight in Missouri and the crowd was very kind. It went great.”
“Most of you figured out that no one in their right mind would plan it out this way. I’m doing my best to help my buds that have been in the band for four decades,” he explained. “I love this group because you are all unfiltered and real, so please never change. Looking forward to the future. Love you all!”
On Thursday, the morning after the news of Tait’s alleged abuse was made public and before the band had released their official statement, Agee said in the Facebook group, “Hey guys, we will of course be making appropriate official statements very soon (probably today) but I wanted to be real with you first.”
