Televangelist Jimmy Swaggart (90) is in critical condition after suffering a cardiac arrest on Sunday morning (June 15).

Swaggart is the founder of Family Worship Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Jimmy Swaggart Bible College, and Jimmy Swaggart Ministries. Swaggart, alongside his son Donnie and his grandson Gabriel, pastors Family Worship Center.

In 1988, the preacher was defrocked by the Assemblies of God after being caught soliciting prostitution. In 1991, Swaggart was again caught soliciting prostitution after being pulled over by police in California.

“You know, we are a very private family. We’ve always been very private,” Donnie told the Family Worship Center congregation during its evening prayer service. “We keep our troubles to ourselves. We don’t bring other people into it. We we’ve always braved the storms as a family internally, but this is beyond that.”

After promising to provide transparent updates regarding his father’s health, Donnie shared that shortly after 8 a.m. on Sunday morning, he and Gabriel rushed to his parents’ house because his father had gone into “cardiac arrest.”

“He never regained consciousness,” Donnie said. “We both took turns giving him chest compressions until EMT could get there…[and] they were able to get a heartbeat back.”

Swaggart’s son indicated that his father is currently in the Intensive Care Unit and said that “without a miracle, his time will be short.” Donnie continued, “But we believe God. We’re not we’re not giving up. We’ve already told the doctors we don’t want to hear anything from them. We will make decisions in our own time, but we’re going to give the Lord an opportunity to work.”

Donnie told those who watch their broadcast that the “best thing you can do, besides prayer, is to show your love and support for the network. This is what he would want. This is what he would desire.”

“Yesterday morning, I picked him up to bring him to prayer meeting. He was not doing well,” Donnie shared. “Matter of fact, we got in the car and he was slumped over, and I said, ‘Dad, you don’t look good.’ He goes, ‘I don’t feel good.’ I said, ‘I’m taking you back to the house.’ And he said, ‘No, I want to go pray. I want to go pray.’”
