John Crist on Doing a ‘Complete 360’
Crist used the bulk of his stand-up set to joke about correcting his girlfriend’s word choices. “I totally just bit myself in the foot,” she once said—leading him to provide the correct figure of speech.
“You know what I meant,” she replied. “What are you, like, an encyclopedia?”
Calling it “too tempting,” Crist clapped back, “I think you meant dictionary.”
Another time, his girlfriend was discussing the success story of someone who had turned her life around. “She’s done a complete 360,” the girlfriend announced to friends at dinner. Crist couldn’t believe “nobody caught it” and was excited “to win a fight” on the drive home.
But later, when he tried to explain that she really meant “180,” his girlfriend doubled-down. “I meant 360, John, like a full transformation, like a butterfly coming out of a cocoon.”
Though flummoxed, Crist said he had “one more ace in the pocket.” When he dropped off his girlfriend, he stood and turned around in place.
“That’s the last time we talked,” he concluded to applause.
