Chuck Girard, known for his longtime work in Christian music as a musician and songwriter, announced yesterday (June 25) that he has stage 4 cancer.
Girard is a founding member of Love Song, one of the most famous bands from the Jesus Music era in the late 1960s and early 1970s. In 2012, Love Song was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame, joining artists such as Elvis Presley, Twila Paris, Larry Norman, Michael W. Smith, Amy Grant, Russ Taff, Billy Graham, Aretha Franklin, Johnny Cash, 4Him, Gaither Vocal Band, Take 6, The Winans, The Isaacs, The Imperials, DeGarmo and Key, Petra, and many more.
Girard is also the father of Christian apologist and former ZOEgirl band member Alisa Childers.

“I don’t post here very often, but I have something important to share,” Girard said on Facebook. “First of all, I’m deeply grateful for all of you. It’s been an honor to share my music and ministry with you for the past 50 years. Your kind messages and support over the years have been a tremendous source of encouragement and inspiration.”
“In the fall of 2024, I was diagnosed with stage four cancer, which by then had already metastasized to my lungs,” he continued. “I began chemotherapy in November and have been undergoing treatment since then.”
Girard further said that a few months ago, his doctor took him off of the chemotherapy treatments because they were ineffective.
“We are now pursuing other treatment options and praying for more time, but ultimately it’s in the hands of God,” Girard added.
Girard expressed that he, his wife Karen, and the rest of their family “are walking in total peace with the comfort of the Holy Spirit, knowing that our lives are in His hands.” Girard said that he hopes to share updates and requested prayer.
