Moales played football with the Police Athletic League and got to know several police officers while growing up.
Family and Friends React to Pastor Kenneth Moales Jr. Fighting With a Carjacker
Family, friends, and congregants are upset with Pastor Kenneth Moales Jr. for standing up to the carjacker, risking his own life.
“He got something he wasn’t expecting,” said Moales. “He got quite a few punches to the face. I actually wrestled to get the gun out of his hand.”

Moales’ daughter, a registered nurse who met her father at the hospital, expressed her anger at her father for engaging in an unsafe situation.
“She said, ‘Dad, are you crazy?'” Moales recalled. “But I’m from Bridgeport. There is no urban community more violent and intense than Bridgeport. If you survive Bridgeport, you can go into any urban community and protect yourself.”
