Anne Wilson Loves Having ‘A Bigger Audience for the Gospel’
Back in January, when Anne Wilson announced she would be opening at some of Morgan Wallen’s concerts, some fans were on the fence. “It just doesn’t make sense,” someone commented, noting that Wallen often sings about women and alcohol. Wilson, meanwhile, sings, “I guess I’m just kinda fixed on / The only thing that’s ever fixed me / That’s why I sing songs about Jesus / Instead of singing songs about whiskey.”
In response, another person asked, “Isn’t [a Wallen concert] the perfect place to spread the word of Jesus to a bunch of people who probably otherwise wouldn’t hear it?”
Someone else wrote, “I’m just going to show up late” to Wallen’s show. “I’d go to church if I wanted to hear someone preach.”
Wilson isn’t deterred by criticism. Calling Wallen her “dream artist to open for,” she said it was “really cool…that I can have a bigger audience for the gospel.” Wilson added, “I love getting to spread the name of Jesus. It’s been a really great journey for me.”
After a July 2024 assassination attempt against then-presidential candidate Donald Trump, Wilson urged people to pray that “God would heal our land.” That event inspired her to write “Stand Your Ground,” a song about her love for God and country.
