On Tuesday (July 29), Christian rock band Kutless shared that James Mead, the band’s guitarist, suffered a stroke and will be facing a “long and challenging road to recovery.”
“James Mead—beloved guitarist of the band Kutless, devoted husband to Lindsay, and proud father to Jacob—recently suffered a stroke that has changed life for him and his family in an instant,” the band shared on social media.
“While James’s faith remains strong, he now faces a long and challenging road to recovery, including physical therapy, rehabilitation, and ongoing medical care,” Kutless continued.
“Whether you know James through his music, his ministry, or his friendship, your support—through prayer, giving, and sharing helps carry him through this difficult time,” the band said.
“Hey everyone. This post is a tough one to send out, but so many of you have supported us for so many years and today we are asking for your help,” Kutless wrote in another post next to an image of Mead. “Our guitarist James has suffered a stroke and is currently in the hospital. He has a long road ahead of him and we are praying for a miraculous recovery.”

Kutless asked fans to join in praying for the Mead family and requested donations to support the family with medical bills.
A GoFundMe has been set up and has raised over $11,650.
“More than anything, we ask for your continued prayers, love, and encouragement,” the GoFundMe organizers wrote. “Let’s surround James, Lindsay, and Jacob with the same strength and support that James has shared through his music over the years.”
Kutless recently released the EP “The Seventh Seal.” The band has been nominated for nine Gospel Music Association (GMA) Dove Awards over its 25-year history.
