In an announcement for “Young Washington” earlier in July, Erwin said:
What I’m making is the culmination of everything I’ve made before. And if, for some reason, it was the last film I was ever able to make, I would be happy with that…I felt that way about “House of David.” I felt that way about “Jesus Revolution.” Like if it has all led to this, then it will have been worth it. It’s a spectacle, it’s a hero’s journey, it’s a romance, it’s an action adventure, but ultimately, it’s, it’s the forging of one of the great leaders of all time, and something that has been incredibly inspirational in my life. Washington is just one of those stories that I so want to do the story justice, and it’s such a sprawling historical epic that you just want to get better and better at what you do, and so a lot of the other movies were necessary, and just the training and the craftsmanship and the teams around us to be able to put a story this big on display. My hope is that the story is going to blow you away, and you’re going to love it.
