Metropolitan AME Sues Hudson Valley Proud Boys Chapter

Metropolitan AME filed a federal lawsuit against the Hudson Valley Proud Boys Chapter; the chapter’s president, William Pepe; and one to 100 John Does.  The lawsuit states that the Proud Boys currently owe Metropolitan AME $3.1 million “with interest and attorneys’ fees.”

The suit makes the case that the Hudson Valley Proud Boys Chapter is continuing to use the Proud Boys trademark and cites examples such as merchandise, domain names, and graphics on the chapter’s website.

Metropolitan AME says the church sent the Hudson Valley Proud Boys Chapter a cease and desist letter on June 26 but that the chapter neither responded nor stopped using the trademark. The requests listed in the lawsuit’s prayer for relief include damages, the defendants’ profits from the trademark, and compensation for attorneys’ fees.
