“Joseph of Egypt,” a new Prime Video limited series about the life of the biblical figure Joseph, has begun filming, according to “The Chosen” creator and director Dallas Jenkins.
“Filming has begun! The expanded Chosen Bible universe is officially underway,” Jenkins posted on social media Thursday, Aug. 14.
Jenkins first announced the eight-episode biblical drama during ChosenCon 2024 in Orlando, Florida, and shared how he won’t be the main writer.

“I’m not alone. I am not the only one who can be an underqualified, flawed person telling a story from the Bible,” Jenkins told the thousands at ChosenCon. “And so we have been working, actually, with a really brilliant writer.”
“So this would be one season and our intention is actually to release this before Season 7 of ‘The Chosen,’” said Jenkins. “So you’re going to get some Bible content before we’re done with the mothership show.”
Jenkins assured “The Chosen” fans that while he isn’t at the helm of all future 5&2 Studios projects that he, Ryan Swanson, and Tyler Thompson, his co-writers, “are the brain trust.” Jenkins said, “We are the ultimate backstop and final authority on the projects.”
“The beauty of the Joseph story, and the reason that we want to tell it, is that, in many ways, when you took the stories of Jacob, Joseph’s father, and you look at the stories of Joseph and his brothers—this was before the law,” Jenkins said. “This was before Moses. This was human beings trying to figure out how to live, how to deal with some of their basest impulses, how to deal with their humanity, with no guideline.”
“And so in many ways, these stories are the reason that Moses was given the law, and Moses’ stories are the reason that Jesus came,” Jenkins continued. “So we want that through line through all of these projects, even when they’re Old Testament projects. They’re really, ultimately Jesus projects. And so Joseph felt like a natural one for a limited series, eight episodes.”
