“One thing that I’ve been saying is I think that if the church and if the Christian community started elevating Jesus like we elevate people—elevating Jesus instead of elevating people,” Dixon emphasized, “I think this world would be a lot easier to navigate, because again, we’re people.”
One of Dixon’s unreleased songs, titled “In Spite of Me,” which he plays live in concert, speaks to someone finding Jesus despite being hurt by others.
“My focus is more on the people,” he said. “People affected, the rest of the world, because I believe the world bases their opinion on who God is based on those headlines, based on a direct encounter they have with the believer. And if I’m honest, that sucks.”
Dixon acknowledged, “I know we’re human. We’re not always the best representation of who God is [as] I think we need to be.” He then encouraged the church, “Before you react to something, take a second [to] gather your thoughts and instead respond to that thing.” Dixon explained, “A response is well-articulated. A reaction is emotional.”
“In the times that I fall short, I still hope you see the bigger picture because even though Christians will fail you—people will fail you—God never will. Period,” Dixon concluded.
