Following the murder of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk this week, some people are reposting clips from Kirk’s conversations with longtime Bible teacher and Pastor John MacArthur. “Two giants of the faith now together in heaven,” Allie Beth Stuckey wrote on X, while sharing a clip of Kirk and MacArthur talking in 2022.
Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, was shot and killed Wednesday (Sept. 10) while speaking at Utah Valley University as part of his The American Comeback Tour. Tributes have been pouring in for the podcaster, a 31-year-old husband and father of two young children.

Kirk, known for welcoming debate about controversial cultural topics, was outspoken about his Christian faith. In June, when he was asked his legacy, Kirk replied, “I want to be remembered for courage for my faith. That would be the most important thing. The most important thing is my faith.”
After John MacArthur died in July at age 86, Kirk honored him by saying, “We lost a legend.” MacArthur served as pastor of Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California, for 56 years. The author of more than 150 books, he also served as president of The Master’s Seminary and The Master’s University, and founded “Grace to You,” a syndicated Bible teaching program.

John MacArthur Shared the Gospel With Charlie Kirk’s Listeners
In September 2022, fellow conservatives Charlie Kirk and John MacArthur discussed the hope of the gospel and why people need Jesus. After mentioning a “growing interest” in truth, Kirk asked MacArthur to explain why “a Bible-based church is the answer.”
MacArthur replied, “The church is the pillar and ground of the truth. That’s what the Bible says. All we’ve got is the truth, but that’s all we need.” The pastor added that speaking the truth from divinely inspired Scripture “is transformative, and it is what desperate people need.” The role of the church, MacArthur added, is to proclaim truth to people who are feeling “huge hunger” in their hearts.
MacArthur, who made headlines for defying health restrictions during the pandemic, told Kirk that his California congregation “literally exploded” in size from 2020 to 2022. “The first Sunday we opened this church, a thousand elementary kids showed up here,” the pastor said. “They were so weary of being isolated and kept away from school and kept away from their friends.”
Next, Kirk asked MacArthur to expound on the hope found in Jesus Christ, noting that many young Americans are told that absolute truth doesn’t exist. Kirk encouraged MacArthur to talk “directly to our nation’s young people, the most suicidal, depressed, alcohol-addicted, drug-addicted, lost, confused, childless generation in history.”
